Electro-acoustics give the guitarist the flexibility to adapt to a variety of different playing needs. A good electro should give all the unplugged tone of a 'straight' acoustic while also producing a faithful reproduction of that sound through an amplifier. While there are a variety of ways of picking up the signal from an acoustic by far the most common type is a 'peizo' pick-up located under the saddle, which then feeds the signal into a battery powered Pre-amp. Electros often feature a cutaway design for easier access to the upper frets and generally have a slightly easier action than the average acoustic guitar.
